Next month, therapist to the stars Dr. Katz is back in business after an 18-year hiatus. On June 8, new series Dr. Katz: The Audio Files – available from Audible Channels – will resurrect the series, which originally aired in animated form on Comedy Central from 1995-1999 (with a three-episode special in 2002).
Nearly two decades later, Dr. Jonathan Katz is still catering to comedians – like Sarah Silverman, Maria Bamford, Pete Holmes, Margaret Cho, Ron Funches, Ray Romano, Weird Al, Dana Gould, Emo Philips, Ted Danson, and of course, Andy Kindler – and he’s still rooming with his son / best friend, Ben (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin), an eternally optimistic and ambitious slacker who keeps things interesting for the doctor.
Dr. Katz: The Audio Files will be released as a series of 15-minute episodes, available on Audible Channels or via Amazon Prime. If you don’t have a subscription to either, don’t worry – you’ll be able to access the episodes for $4.95 a month.
It may have been awhile since you’ve heard from Dr. Katz, but this new series isn’t his first project since the Comedy Central days; recently, he’s been touring with his show, “Dr. Katz Live” (which has appeared at festivals including LA’s Riot and Portland’s Bridgetown), and he’s the host of podcast Hey We’re Back!
