This Week In Comedy: Celebrities do classic Norman Lear live

This week we’re seeing the resurrection of some iconic Norman Lear sitcoms for a new generation. For those unfamiliar with Lear, he’s the man responsible for the creation of legendary sitcoms like All In The Family, The Jeffersons, Sandford & Son, and Good Times. Lear is a huge advocate for First Amendment rights and progressive causes which were often front and center with the characters featured in his shows. Jimmy Kimmel was discussing these great shows with other celebrity friends and felt reprising some of Lear’s work would show just how relevant they still are in today’s climate. He made a call to Lear who agreed to the project and before he knew it, a star-studded cast of actors signed on for live takes of episodes of two of Lear’s finest shows with the likes of Woody Harrelson, Jamie Foxx, Marisa Tomei, Wanda Sykes, Will Ferrell, Kerry Washington, Ellie Kemper, Justina Machado, Jovan Adepo, Anthony Anderson, Stephen Tobolowsky, Jackée Harry, Ike Barinholtz, Sean Hayes and Amber Stevens West.

The 90 minute tribute will be performed in front of a live studio audience this Wednesday, May 22nd on ABC. In addition to Kimmel, the event will be executive-produced by Lear, Justin Theroux, Brent Miller, Will Ferrell, and Adam McKay.
