Always surrounded by drama, longtime radio host Gregg “Opie” Hughes is back in the news, this time over worries he’s finally about to get the axe from network SiriusXM.
Insiders, and fans of his hugely popular Faction Talk (formerly Opie Radio), are buzzing with speculation that SiriusXM won’t renew Opie’s contract, which is officially up this October. The network, rumor goes, could take the opportunity to be rid of a host who’s caused them considerable trouble during his time there, from the dramatic end of his Opie with Jimmy show with Jim Norton to his latest poorly-received prank on rival Howard Stern.
Radar reports there are more rumors swirling that support talk of Opie’s departure: they’ve heard comic Nick DiPaolo has been tapped to take over Opie’s current, coveted 6-9pm EST time slot.
Could Opie’s long-running fued with Stern have cause the Private Parts star to demand his firing? Could his bad luck finally be catching up with him? Is it all just baseless speculation? We’ll know more closer to October, as Opie’s contract winds down.
