A newly retired police officer looks forward to spending more quality time with his wife and three kids only to discover he faces much tougher challenges at home than he ever did on the streets. Kevin’s retirement plans consist of chilling with his family and having epic adventures with fellow retirees Goody, his former partner and close friend, and Duffy, his oldest pal, as well as his brother, Kyle, a firefighter whose closest encounter with a blaze would be a grease fire in the firehouse kitchen. However, Kevin’s dream is jeopardized when he discovers that Donna, his wonderful wife of 20 years, has shielded him from key family info while he worked overtime protecting the community. Their usually reliable eldest, Kendra, is dropping out of college so she can support her unemployed fiancé, Chale, while he designs the next “big app”; his teenage daughter, Sara, has budding anger-management issues; and their youngest, Jack, is a bit of a hypochondriac. For now, Kevin’s plans for a cushy life will have to wait, because he has work to do, and this time his family is his beat.

Kevin James is an actor, comedian, screenwriter, and producer. He’s best known for his character Doug Heffernan on CBS’ The King of Queens which ran for nearly 10 years. However, his career started in stand-up in 1989. He was able to gain a following from his various late night television appearances including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Dennis Miller Live, The Late Late Show, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and Live with Regis and Kathie Lee. This culminated in the 2001 special Kevin James: Sweat the Small Stuff.
Television would be the place James made the biggest impact launching his career into the stratosphere. Before lightning struck with The King of Queens, he found himself on The New Candid Camera in 1991. In this clip, he tries to get people to “Look at Nothing”…
Then, in 1995, he appeared on Star Search. He made it to the semi finals by beating comedian Brad Lwery. And Andy Richter was a judge! Here’s his performance:
Then there was that time he was he was the announcer on a little known MTV gameshow called Sandblast.
And before He put the “King” in “Queens” he guest-starred on a few episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond. These appearances led to the development of the show that would change his career forever. What’s great about this clips is that it also features comedians Andy Kindler and Dave Attell.
Now that we’ve covered James’ illustrious television career, we’d be amiss to not recognize his film credits which boast the likes of Hitch, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Hotel Transylvania, Grown Ups and Pixels.
All of this brings us to the fall of 2016 and James’ return to television, CBS in particular. Kevin Can Wait premieres on September 19th where he co-stars alongside Erinn Hayes (Childrens Hospital, Parks and Recreation, New Girl).
