In the latest episode of new Above Average series “Manners Men,” consummate gentlemen / co-hosts Dan Chamberlain and Mike Antonucci – er, Daniel and Michael – attempt to teach heathen New Jersey native Chris Gethard all about the finer things in life.
But the Chris Gethard Show host, who’s made a career out of empathizing with weirdos (like he does on his Earwolf podcast, Beautiful / Anonymous), turns the tables on the show’s two very proper hosts, intuiting that their impeccable manners might be hiding a secret pain.
“I wouldn’t have been surprised if you had explained to me that this web series was started after something traumatic happened, and you had to rebuild your worldviews,” he suggests, gently. “It has a little bit of that vibe.”
Lesson learned: don’t invite Gethard on your show unless you’re ready for things to get real, fast.
