Comic and actor Baron Vaughn’s latest project isn’t a stand-up special – it’s a documentary that follows his search for his unknown father, an intensely personal hour-long journey that’ll air on Fusion this April.
Variety reports that the film, titled Fatherless, “demonstrates Vaughn’s desire to be more than a statistic and instead search for the man whose absence required Vaughn to formulate his own construct of the black male identity.”
The black identity in general is a topic of interest for Vaughn, both in his stand-up and offstage (and in the acting gigs he pursues, as evidenced by his award-worthy starring role on Grace and Frankie); he’s the producer and host UCB’s wildly popular live show “The New Negroes,” a showcase of up-and-coming comics of color.
On the lighter end of the spectrum, you can also catch Vaughn in the upcoming reboot of MST3K.
