Ever since it premiered to universal critical acclaim at Sundance, we’ve been waiting to get our first look at The Big Sick — the film that chronicles comic Kumail Nanjiani and producer Emily V. Gordon’s real-life relationship – and now, we’ve finally got a trailer.
Produced by Judd Apatow, The Big Sick tells the story of Nanjiani and Gordon’s relationship, specifically its beginning, when they were living in Chicago. In the midst of dealing with a mess of cultural issues that arose in the early days of their dating, Gordon – who’s portrayed in the film by Zoe Kazan – fell into a coma, with a mysterious “big sick” that tested and bonded the pair.
Nanjiani and Gordon, who also worked together on The Meltdown (both the long-running live show and the Comedy Central edition), co-wrote The Big Sick script.
As a fun bonus, the trailer comes with an intro where you get to hear Ray Romano say “party so hard,” which is an unexpected day-brightener.
The Big Sick gets a limited release on June 23rd.
