Chris Gethard’s Career Suicide is one of this year’s most highly anticipated new specials: produced by Judd Apatow, the show was a sold-out off-Broadway hit last year, earning rave reviews for its ability to make a frank, open conversation about depression funny.
Gethard’s never been a typical comedian, so it stands to reason that he wouldn’t create a typical comedy special. A former mainstay at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, he began hosting oddball variety hour The Chris Gethard Show on Manhattan public access in 2011; now, TCGS has two seasons on Fusion, and Gethard is an accomplished stand-up comic who frequently tours with Mike Birbiglia, when he’s not scripting hit shows, etc.
Career Suicide premieres May 6th on HBO.
