It’s real. It’s really real. The Chicago Cubs are champions of baseball. 108 years of heartache now erased. Whether you stayed up until the early hours on the east coast watching on television, or woke up this morning to hear the news that transcended the sport, one thing we know for sure is that there is no better way to live through a monumental moment like this than through the eyes of a comedian.
Social media was the next best place to have your eyes glued during the historic extra innings seventh game of the World Series between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians. We all know of Bill Murray’s love for the Cubs (more post celebration with him in just a bit), but one of the more interesting follows was of Roy Wood Jr., correspondent for The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Comedy Central. Wood Jr. has been a life long Cubs fan. How do we know this? Our very own Mark Says Hi! is as well and the two of them sat out in the rain professing their love for the (no longer) lovable losers at a game in New York City. The moment itself was capture on MLB TV for the whole world to see when the two were goofing off during the delay taking pictures of each other.
Now, flash forward to the World Series, game 7, Roy Wood Jr. donning an undeniable white pinstriped Chicago Cubs bath robe. Yes, bath robe (see above photo). “Never question the Victory Robe. Never.” he tweeted. He had no fear entering Progressive Field in Cleveland, OH. However, when final play of the game resulted in a championship for his team, he knew he had to eventually find a way out. After celebrating with those fans who remained in the stadium to soak up the moment, his next challenge was getting out of Cleveland. Something quite tough while wearing an outfit that makes you stand out more than a glow worm in a pitch black abandon warehouse. Enjoy the adventure straight from Wood Jr. himself:
