Spike TV is launching a whole boat load of new series for the upcoming fall, one of which is going to be a comedy starring Denis Leary. The show will be called Rebel League, and will based on a book by Ed Willes of the same name. It will revolve around the short-lived 1970s World Hockey Association. Hopes are high for the show considering it revolves around two things Denis Leary is very passionate about, hockey and being the underdog. Leary has had monster success with Rescue Me on FX and the Rescue Me Comedy Tour (featuring Lenny Clarke and Adam Ferrara). Considering this is the first comedic role in a TV show since Contest Searchlight (which technically doesn’t count since the show was only four episodes) it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
