The Funny Music Project was formed in 2007 as a service to bring comedy music fans funny songs twice a week and, after releasing over 1,000 songs from hundreds of artists, is now celebrating it’s 10 year anniversary.
The service began in January of 2007 and has made it’s mark on the comedy music scene as a whole. The FuMP is a collaborative effort made up of a large, ever-growing group of comedy musicians including such Dr. Demento Show regulars as Devo Spice, Worm Quartet, the great Luke Ski, Power Salad, Insane Ian, Carrie Dahlby, Carla Ulbrich, Seamonkey, Steve Goodie, Mikey Mason, TV’s Kyle, and many more.
Artists from The FuMP posts two new comedy songs each week on their website at www.thefump.com which are available to download and stream for free. Legendary radio personality Dr. Demento called The FuMP “the best thing to happen to the funny music since Al went weird.”
Songs can be purchased individually or as a monthly subscription. High quality versions of the songs are available for sale and on compilation CDs which are produced every other month. Subscriptions start at just $4.99 a month.
To mark the event, a Tenth Anniversary song, “We Want The FuMP” will premiere on the site on January 3rd, 2017. Penned by core FuMP members Insane Ian and Devo Spice, and performed by FuMPers Insane Ian, the great Luke Ski, Devo Spice, and featuring cameos by TV’s Kyle, Carrie Dahlby, ShoEboX of Worm Quartet and Chris Mezzolesta of Power Salad, the song is a loving tribute to the site and it’s fans. The song premiered live on stage at FuMPFeST 2016, and the studio version will finally be released.
As commemoration of the Ten Years of comedy music, legendary radio host Dr. Demento will feature The FuMP on his January 7th show, playing songs and featuring interviews with the aforementioned FuMP core personalities of the great Luke Ski, Devo Spice, and Insane Ian. The FuMP has had the #1 song every year on Dr Demento’s year-end Funny 25 countdown, and owes much of it’s success to his show.
Other events planned for the year include a major site overhaul for TheFuMP.com, a FuMP App for smartphones, and of course, the annual FuMPFeST in Chicagoland, June 16-18th. This year’s event features Guest of Honor Henry Phillips, with more guests to be announced soon. Events in the 3 day festival include a Q&A and autograph session with the Guest of Honor, panels (such as the audience-participation-rich “Dumb Parody
Ideas”), vendors, Live Podcast recordings, a video contest, movie screenings, and of course, concerts from various comedy musicians from The
FuMP and elsewhere.
