This month, a new gathering is being launched to celebrate the life of “the funniest boy in the world…and 4/20,” and we can’t imagine a more perfect tribute to the late, beautifully brilliant stand-up and writer, Harris Wittels.
The event, titled “Harris Phest” (an homage to the comics’ favorite band, Phish, the subject of his passion project podcast, Analyze Phish) is being run by his sister, Stephanie Wittels-Wachs. She has written several smart and heavy pieces since her brother’s passing (“The New Normal: Navigating Life After Harris’ Death” and a series of heartbreaking essays on Medium), and it’s clear she hopes the Phest will be more a celebration of his oddball humor and story-filled life than a somber memorial.
Events will include:
Phish cover band A Live One & local smoke shop, Eado Glass & Smokeblowing glass live in WonderWorld. Rec Room will be presenting best-of scenes from Park & Recreation scripts written by Harris. Plus 4 stand up comedians, and a live @twittels tweet show. Proceeds benefit the Harris Wittels Fund at HSPVA.
Harris Phest takes place on (duh) 4/20 at the 8th Wonder Brewery in Dallas, Texas. You can RSVP for the free event on Facebook.
Here’s the full poster, in all its fittingly psychedelic glory:
