“WARNING! This series is meant for both white and black audiences – and every other color imaginable.” The disclaimer that comes before the trailer for new Netflix series Dear White People doesn’t seem like it should be necessary, but after particularly harsh internet backlash against the show, mostly based on its name, and not on anyone’s research on the show’s content, perhaps the network felt a nice tongue-in-cheek intro might help clear things up.
The series, based on Justin Simian’s 2014 film of the same name, will be a 10-episode series following a group of friends trying to navigate growing racial tensions at an Ivy League university.
Dear White People hits Netflix April 28th.
