The CW Network has given early renewals to seven of its primetime series for the 2017-2018 season that includes the comdies Jane The Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
“Over the past several seasons, The CW has built a schedule of proven performers, from our lineup of DC superheroes, to critically acclaimed comedies, to sci-fi dramas,” said Pedowitz. “Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long.”
Jane The Virgin is a satirical romantic comedy-drama telenovela developed by Jennie Snyder Urman, that debuted on The CW on October 13, 2014. It is a loose adaptation of the Venezuelan telenovela Juana la Virgen created by Perla Farías. The series stars Gina Rodriguez as Jane Villanueva, a working, religious young Latina virgin, who becomes pregnant after being artificially inseminated by mistake. The program parodies commonly used tropes and devices in Latin telenovelas.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a romantic musical comedy-drama television series which premiered on October 12, 2015, on The CW. The series was created by Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna, and stars Bloom in the lead role. Rebecca Bunch (Bloom) is a Jewish, Yale- and Harvard-educated lawyer, who works for a top New York firm. She freaks out when offered a partnership and bumps into Josh Chan on the street. Josh was her first love from summer camp in 2005 and she never got over the way he dumped her at the end of camp. While watching a butter spread commercial, Rebecca decides to follow Josh in search of happiness. She hops a plane to L.A., gets a job at Darryl Whitefeather’s West Covina law firm, buys a house, and flushes all her depression and anxiety meds down the sink. She becomes friends with the firm’s paralegal, Paula, and begins an on-again-off-again relationship with Josh’s friend Greg, while trying to reconnect with Josh.
