It’s always fun when Jimmy Fallon hosts Saturday Night Live. He’s an alumni and knows the ropes of the show. Like his Tonight Show hosting duties he provides a lot of the variety to the show. He draws other names into the fold, and, for some reason seems to involve the musical guest more than most. This was also the first episode the show has ever broadcast live coast to coast. Of course the decision to have a familiar character like Fallon host was a good one. He’s a proven commodity, is likeable as all get out, and can even pull off a decent David Bowie tune. Let’s run it down.
Cold Open: Trump
With some really big news stories happening this week in the world of politics, the cold open pits Drumpf trying to settle his cabinet advisers. Right now there’s an alleged power struggle between Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner, how does our reality show President decide? Well, like a reality show host.
Monologue
When he hosts the show, Fallon always seems to opt for the musical monologue. Which is good as their is always a fun element to them. They’ve also gotten more impressive, perhaps it’s because of his time on The Tonight Show. What else should he do on the eve of Easter and a broadcast around the nation but pay tribute to David Bowie, oh look, it’s Nile Rogers!
Celebrity Family Feud: Time Travel Edition
This entire sketch was really about the dueling John Travoltas that Fallon was trying to pull off. It’s also about Harry Styles using words rather than just tossing off a smirk and a hairstyle.
Before The Show
This sketch was written from someone who was very aware of how middle/high school theater operates. Backstage, a bunch of children extremely confident in their ability, on stage it’s a bit to be desired.
Take Me Back
When a man is trying to get back with his girlfriend and he’s making the grand gesture by coming by her place and singing some Savage Garden for her. But at the end of his Say Anything moment, we get ourselves a twist. A unique commentary on the events that happened at United Airlines this week. But that’s not all, with the final joke of the sketch we get another quick joke, it’s even a callback to last week’s Pepsi Commercial sketch with Beck Bennett delivering the line.
A Special Message From Sean Spicer
When the news of White House Press Secretary made some boneheaded comments about Hitler this week, Michael Che made a great joke on social media moments later, “oh dope! it’ll be fun to see Melissa McCarthy this week.” Alluding that the show is going to bring her in to mock Spicey. It’s only fitting that they decided to toss her into an Easter Bunny outfit because Spicer once was a white house egg roll bunny. Which, also according to reports, might be the exact level of Easter celebration the White House has planned this week.

Weekend Update
Weekend Update just chugged along with some great digs at our President, and there was a lot to mock this week. From the Mar-A-Lago cake/wrong bombing location flub to Che’s great joke about the need for the secret service to protect the entire Trump Family. But Trump wasn’t the entire center of joke because United was kicked around a few times as well.
Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy dropped by to discuss Passover and all of its glory. He still doesn’t want to talk to Michael Che though.

New Shirt
We’ve all been there, wanted to curl up into a ball and just hide. But with the turtle shirt, you can blast Lil Jon and disappear. That’s perhaps the best literal interpretation of this scenario we probably could get.
Sully & Denise
Fallon and Rachel Dratch resurrected two beloved characters in Sully & Denise. They’re all grown up now and have a wicked smart kid looking to go to college, particularly Harvard.

Once again, Harry Styles.
Basketball Scene
The 10-to-1 sketch of the evening was everything you’d want in it. Big funny, and somewhat dumb idea that you can’t help but stop laughing at. Particularly when they start getting nailed in the face with basketballs.
