Jimmy Kimmel broke down during his tribute to Don Rickles

Last night, Jimmy Kimmel Live aired an emotional tribute to legendary comedian Don Rickles, who passed away at the age of 90.

In honor of Rickles, who Kimmel calls “probably the greatest talk show guest of all time,” the show compiled some clips of his past visits, full of very Rickles-y one-liners — like, when Kimmel notes his eighth appearance, Rickles fires back, “Well, I’ll drop my pants and fire a rocket!”

Kimmel had a hard time getting through it all, and he gave a disclaimer that it was going to be a rough one right up top: “This is not going to be our usual show tonight, and I’ll tell you right up front that I’m going to cry,” he warned, “probably a lot, which is embarrassing. But I’m not good with this sort of thing and I’m sorry — especially to those of you who came here to see the show in person, because that’s probably not what you came for. But we lost someone that we and I love very much today.”

The above clip is just a snippet of Kimmel’s tribute to Rickles; catch up on the entire episode to hear more heartfelt memories.
