Some stories, like the ouster of Fox News chairman Roger Ailes, are too big for one late night host to tackle alone. So that’s why you bring in the only and only Jon Stewart.
Stewart, who literally popped up from behind the desk in a gray t-shirt looking a bit disheveled, ultimately took over Colbert’s desk to report on the RNC’s final evening – specifically Trump. But before he could do so, Colbert cleaned him up a bit with a blazer and clip-on tie that actually just clipped on to Stewart’s chest hair. But the committed characters held true.
Stewart then opened up with a first words once behind the desk were, “Uh hello, how are you?” while rubbing the desk top and doing his traditional left-handed scribbling on paper before going right for Trump. He immediately called Trump an “angry groundhog” and let everyone know that Trump just vomited all over everything with his speech. He then laid out the Republican plan based on that which was presented at the RNC. He then called out Republicans for now having to contort themselves in order to back their Presidential Candidate, by means that were their defense to not want to elect Obama.
Then, Stewart heads straight into a “lumpy” rant, a nickname he’s now given to Sean Hannity. It’s full-on Daily Show Jon Stewart now. He then showcased hypocritical clips of Hannity just as he once did at his old gig. He concluded his presentation by explaining to Hannity that he is not this country’s rightful owner. That there “is no real America” and that “You don’t own Patriotism, you don’t own Christianity, you sure as hell don’t own respect for the bravery and sacrifice of military, police, and firefighters.” He then ended his appearance by telling the RNC, “I see you, and I see your bullsh*t. I see it.”
Colbert then popped up from behind to the desk in order to whisper something in Stewart’s ear. Stewart perked up, “Oh, we’re live.”. Colbert gave the thumbs up. “I’ve never been on a television show with stakes before.” Enjoy this 13+ minutes of pure Jon Stewart gold. We miss you Jon.
