Earlier this week, rapper Danny Brown teased a sort of baffling collaboration on Twitter:
Immediately, the Internet went crazy – what could it be?! A new song featuring Hill? A Brown cameo in an upcoming comedy? Turns out, the two teamed up on the below clip, a sitcom-inspired music video for Brown’s latest single, “Ain’t It Funny,” off his recently released album Atrocity Exhibition. With a beautifully grainy 80s aesthetic, the video pays homage to the shows we grew up on, and it even features a few familiar faces – like legendary director Gus Van Sant, for some reason, and Growing Pains mom Joanna Kerns, as parents dealing with unruly Uncle Danny. Brown’s no stranger to the comedy scene – a hyper pop-culture obsessed hipster, he’s appeared on The Eric Andre Show, and has expressed a deep appreciation for the stand-up that informs his own work. “I’m a huge fan of stand-up comedy, like Eddie Murphy Raw, Dave Chappelle, Louis C.K.,” he’s told Fuse. “I look at the way they write their stand-up material, I probably write my raps the exact same way… The things that make me laugh are the things that I’m saying.” Here’s the hilarious (and, warning, sort of gory) video for “Ain’t It Funny”:Dropping something live with the bruh bruh @JonahHill tomorrow – 5pm ET pic.twitter.com/B8HzoOFvdM
