Stand-up Kevin Hart’s had a big week: he just headlined Comedy Central’s first-ever Colossal Clusterfest in San Francisco, and now he’s releasing his first book, I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons.
Even though Hart got a standing ovation when he visited The Late Show to promote the collection of essays, he still vividly remembers his less successful years, sharing a story about getting rejected by New York club The Comic Strip. Hart tells Late Show host Stephen Colbert that the club’s old booker, Lucien Hold, had some particularly sobering advice for him: “I don’t think this is for you. I don’t think comedy is your thing.”
Unfortunately for Hold, he was incredibly mistaken, since Hart’s gone on to become one of the most popular stand-up comics in recent history.
The comedian’s also got a story about getting stoned with Snoop Dogg to share with Colbert, because of course he does:
Hart’s book, I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons, is out this week in both print and audio versions, and to celebrate he’s released a special clip of himself giving advice to…well, his younger self.
