Kevin Hart’s “What Now?” earns $12M at the weekend box office

Kevin Hart - What Now?This weekend, Kevin Hart released his third stand-up comedy film and it performed well in the weekend box office earning $12 million dollars. “It’s great,” said Nick Carpou, Universal’s president of domestic distribution. “We love Kevin Hart and apparently so does North America.”

The film, costing $14 million to produce was funded by Hart himself and taped during a tour stop at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, was shot in front of 53,000 people. It’s also outpacing Hart’s 2013 stand-up comedy effort, Let Me Explain. That concert film ended up grossing $32 million domestically.

Universal is definitely in the Kevin Hart business and its proved extremely lucrative for both parties involved. Ride Along 2 grossed $90.9M domestically, Central Intelligence pulled $127.4 million and Secret Life of Pets earned in $365.5 million. It’s clearly a good time to be Kevin Hart.
