Semi-frequent HOT97 guest Marlon Wayans was in the studio again recently, and the comic actor had a lot to say about his past (making parody movies with his brothers) and his future (shifting to more “storytelling”).
Wayans, who starred with his brother Shawn in the late 90s WB sitcom The Wayans Bros, also appeared in the Scary Movie franchise and, among other films, the lucky pre-social media White Chicks.
But Wayans is currently focused on other, solo projects, like his stand-up career — he’s often got dates at NYC club Caroline’s. And he’s got his very own sitcom coming to NBC this fall, the self-titled Marlon (trailer below).
So it makes sense that Wayans is really ready to put his early career behind him and focus on all the stuff he’s got lined up, which is exactly what he told HOT97 DJs this week. And not only is he not focusing on slapstick comedies anymore — he’s done with parody forever, he claims.
His next film, Naked — a Netflix exclusive — co-stars Regina Hall and follows, Groundhog Day-style, a man who keeps getting caught in an elevator…naked. It hits Netflix on August 11th.
