Comic actors Matt Walsh (The UCB Show, Veep) and Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock) have been cast in a high-profile new project: ABC’s proposed spin-off to its hit show Black-ish. The series, if picked up, would follow the sitcom family’s oldest daughter – played by Yara Shahidi – as she goes off to college. Walsh and Parnell would play school administrators, and to set the spin-off up, they’d also guest in an upcoming episode of Black-ish.
Walsh still has a starring role on Veep, so if this series gets picked up, he’d start off as a recurring guest.
Black-ish stars Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson as Shahidi’s parents; created by Kenya Barris and Larry Willmore (who will also oversee the spin-off). Ross recently took home a Golden Globe for her performance on the show.
Also! In addition to this spin-off, Deadline notes, ABC’s also got another new show in the works: a 1990s-set spin-off of The Goldbergs, starring comedians Brian Callen and Tim Meadows.
