Melissa McCarthy tells Ellen all about her perfect Sean Spicer impression

Melissa McCarthy and husband / Bridesmaids co-star Ben Falcone stopped by Ellen to promote their new show, Nobodies, and of course the topic of McCarthy’s recent SNL guest spots came up.

McCarthy’s been in the news for her recurring portrayal of beleaguered press secretary Sean Spicer, a truly masterful caricature of a man who’s already thisclose to becoming completely unhinged. An unexpected and pretty much universally beloved casting choice, McCarthy is the perfect embodiment of frantic, rambling Spicer, with her boundless physicality and unbreaking, furrowed-brow scowls.

When Ellen asks how it all came about, McCarthy reveals the idea came from SNL writer (and fellow Groundlings alum) Kent Sublette. She breaks down exactly what it takes to transform into the balding, big-eared Spicer, and surprisingly, there’s more of a resemblance there already than you’d think.

While she’s been killing it with the cameos all year, on May 13th she’ll be hosting her very own episode – broadcast live in all time zones, something SNL is doing for the first time ever this season.

Nobodies premirees March 29th on TV Land, and it’s scored a second season order. Check out the trailer below.
