Thank God For Jokes, the special, comes from Birbiglia’s acclaimed touring show of the same name. Touted as a musing on “faith,” Thank God For Jokes is really about Birbiglia’s ongoing struggle to exist in an awkward world; with more stories than jokes, per se, he recounts encounters with cops, stewardesses, students, and David O. Russell (yes, that David O. Russell) in equally engaging detail.
This is Birbiglia’s second Netflix special, after 2013 hit My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend (which you can stream now; in anticipation of Birbigs’ latest, you can also watch his mostly-autobiographical film, Sleepwalk With Me, and his confessional special What I Should Have Said Was Nothing: Tales from My Secret Public Journal).
Thank God For Jokes premieres next Tuesday, February 28th.
