When ABC announced the revival of the The Gong Show a few weeks back, they released a promo photo of the show’s new host, Tommy Maitland. Described as a “legendary British host making his US debut.” Nothing wrong with that, save for the fact that Maitland looked a lot like Mike Myers in makeup as the Maitland character. Years of seeing Myers in heavy makeup in his films allowed most people to see it right away. As ABC has kept quiet about the thought that Maitland really was Myers, the release of this new trailer pretty much confirms it as we get to hear Maitland’s mannerisms and hear his voice.
While we’re sure Mike Myers will do a fine job as the show’s host but when it comes to comedians hosting The Gong Show, let’s not remember back in 2008 when another comedian Dave Attell hosted the show for one summer on Comedy Central.
