A few months since the sudden death of his Michelle McNamara, Patton Oswalt announced that he’s preparing a return to stand-up at some point next month. Early this morning, the comedian took to Twitter to announce the news that he felt ready to get back on stage. He also attached a noted scene from the TV show, Deadwood as an explanation.
The scene in question probably frames Oswalt’s current mindset as it features a classic conversation between Al (Ian McShane) and Merrick (Jeffrey Jones) with Al giving Merrick some sage advice about life.
I’m gonna start doing stand-up again next month. This is the closest I can come to a reason why: https://t.co/ygsT7czFNy

“Pain or damage don’t end the world… or despair… or f—ing beatings. The world ends when you’re dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man, and give some back.”Give ’em hell Patton.
