Congratulations to Patton Oswalt, who took home the Grammy for Best Comedy Album on Sunday night.
Last fall, Oswalt’s Talking for Clapping also earned an Emmy – “Best Writing for a Variety Special” – a special which, coincidentally, debuted the same week his wife, acclaimed crime writer Michelle McNamara, unexpectedly passed away last April.
It’s an energetic, passionate, and perfectly scripted hour, with bits that play on Oswalt’s masterful storytelling skills and ability to out-nerd himself with every successive punchline; between lots (lots) of Star Wars references, there are tales of Twitter outrage, Ambien adventures, RuPaul’s right to free speech, and about a dozen other widely varied, but dependably hilarious, topics.
Talking For Clapping was originally released on Netflix, and is now also available on vinyl from A Special Thing records (back in September, when the record first dropped, Oswalt released a very limited edition blue vinyl with all proceeds benefiting 826LA, but alas, you’ll have to scour eBay for those).
