Read an excerpt from Kevin Hart’s new book “I Can’t Make This Up”

Between acting in blockbuster movies, performing stand-up in sold out arenas, and running his own production company / streaming service, it’s impressive Kevin Hart has any time to himself — let alone enough time to write an entire book, and yet, he’s managed to do it.

I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons is being billed as “the funniest, most heartfelt, and most inspirational memoir on survival, success, and the importance of believing in yourself since Old Yeller.” Hart’s debut book chronicles his rough upbringing in North Philadelphia, to strict and drug addicted parents, and the many ways that comedy saved him.

The book is out next week, but you can read an exclusive excerpt over at Variety; Hart appears on the cover of their June print issue, with an in-depth interview about the memoir, his new movies, and much, much more.

Read on to learn about Hart’s time working with UTA, and how he learned to nail the audition process. Unsurprisingly, it turns out that most of Hart’s life lessons are rooted in one very simple life lesson — kindness:

Though people say to live in the moment, each moment leads to other moments. So treat each moment like a seed, and care for it so that something beautiful can grow from it. That Ray kid you joked around with when he was just starting out may become a studio head ten years later, and will remember that you noticed him and treated him special.

I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons is available for pre-order now, and out on June 6th.
