Superior Donuts is a multi-camera sitcom based on a 2008 Tracy Letts play about a donut shop owner, his young employee and their patrons in a gentrifying neighborhood of Chicago. Jermaine Fowler will be the young employee, Franco who is helping push the gentrification process forward with the shop owner now to be played by Judd Hirsch.
“The show has been very high on our radar since we first put it into development last winter,” said Glenn Geller, president, CBS entertainment. “Jermaine Fowler is a rising young star, Judd Hirsch is a comedy legend and the entire cast is full of great comedic talent. We’re very excited to expand our comedy lineup with Superior Donuts.”
According to Deadline, a new pilot was ordered after the upfronts and some roles recast and a last-second cast addition to the new pilot was Katey Sagal. Fowler will also be an executive producer.
