Tons of news from W. Kamau Bell‘s camp this week, meaning we’ve got a lot of new projects from the triple-threat stand-up, writer, and political commentator coming soon.
First up, Bell has re-launched the podcast he hosts with fellow comic Hari Kondabolu, Politically Re-Active; the show, in which the two Very Woke bros give their well-informed, humorous takes on current events, has just begun its second season after a bit of a hiatus. This second season promises to “discuss, dissect and ask the important questions around today’s political world, in particular, how to move forward, how to be an active part of the resistance and how to stay joyful in the face of the unknown,” and as of today there are new episodes available.
Also comedy-adjacent but politically-focused, Bell is celebrating the upcoming release of his very first book, The Awkward Thoughts of W. Kamau Bell – well, actually, the full title (which also gives a pretty descriptive summary) is: The Awkward Thoughts of W. Kamau Bell: Tales of a 6′ 4″, African American, Heterosexual, Cisgender, Left-Leaning, Asthmatic, Black and Proud Blerd, Mama’s Boy, Dad, and Stand-Up Comedian. It’ll tackle all the topics the comic is known for addressing, and much, much more, with Bell’s signature, totally biased takes on the state of our nation. The book is out on May 2nd, but you can pre-order it on Amazon now.
And! As if all that wasn’t enough, Bell’s also got a brand new season of his CNN docu-series, United Shades of America, coming to screens soon. The show, in which Bell travels the country to learn about racial subcultures and “micro-societies,” is yet another venue for Bell to showcase his unique ability to infuse heavy moments with just enough humor to make topics like racial identity accessible to everyone.
Don’t worry, though — even though he’s busy being politically active and helping everyone else make sense of the mess we’re all in, Bell’s still out there performing, and he’s got plenty of new tour dates to make sure you can catch him soon.
