This week, everyone shared their dream “Saturday Night Live” special guest picks

Rosie BannonLast week, Melissa McCarthy literally burst onto the SNL stage with one of the most instantly iconic performances in the show’s history, a breathless (and breathtaking) spin on White House press secretary Sean Spicer that sent the internet – and, as usual, the President – reeling. Predictably, Trump sent out a series of tweets complaining about the show’s content (for someone who watches every week, you think he’d get that he’s not the first politician they’ve targeted in their 40+ year run) – but this time, supposedly, the problem wasn’t just that they were mean, but that a woman was. “More than being lampooned as a press secretary who makes up facts, it was Spicer’s portrayal by a woman that was most problematic in the president’s eyes, according to sources close to him,” Politico reported. “Trump doesn’t like his people to look weak.” So all week, the internet’s been going crazy, speculating about special guests and dreaming up perfect casting matches, with everyone from Huffington Post to Uproxx to Slate to Vanity Fair pitching in. Top contenders include: Ellen DeGeneres as Mike Pence Kaitlin Olson as Kellyanne Conway Betty White as Jefferson Beauregard Sessions Margo Martindale as Rex Tillerson Rachel Dratch as Reince Priebus Rosie O’Donnell as absolutely anyone (but probably Steve Bannon) “If he hated that, then he’ll really hate this” seems to be the theme, and there have been some real A+ ideas floating around. With all the talk, we can’t wait to see what happens tomorrow night – and with host Alec Baldwin leading the charge, it couldn’t be a better setting for some epic surprises.
