This week on TV will most likely be consumed by the election, its coverage, and the aftermath. And that of course means the comedy community and its late night shows with be imposing their own specials and coverage along the way.
On Monday, The 2016 SNL Election Special premieres on NBC. The special will retrace the highlights of the current presidential campaign through clips of recent political Saturday Night Live sketches.
On Tuesday, we get Stephen Colbert’s Live Election Night Democracy’s Series Finale: Who’s Going To Clean Up This Shi*t? It’s quite a title and should be quite a show. Despite Colbert normally airing on CBS, this particular special will be airing on Showtime which should allow for a more festive follow-up to the election and it’s impending result.
On Friday, we get two premieres from the streaming services. First up is the premiere of Red Oaks season two. We are welcomed back to another summer at Red Oaks – where everyone is making fresh starts, leaving behind the security of old lifestyles, breaking apart established relationships and exploring new ones. Meanwhile David, who is stuck at a crossroads in his life, questions whether he can make the right decision regarding his future. Red Oaks is a coming-of-age comedy set in the “go-go” 80s about a college student enjoying a last hurrah before summer comes to an end–and the future begins.
Also on Friday, Netflix premieres new film The True Memoirs of an International Assassin. Kevin James stars as an author-turned-hitman.
Finally on Saturday, Dave Chappelle will make his Saturday Night Live hosting debut alongside musical guest A Tribe Called Quest. Then, HBO premieres the new All Def Comedy special. Hosted by Tony Rock (All of Us, The Tony Rock Project, Apollo Live) with DJ Drama (Atlantic Records, T.I., L’il Wayne), the uncensored special features stand-up performances in a variety of styles from up-and-coming comics, discovered at ADD’s weekly comedy showcase: Chris Powell, Zainab Johnson, Kevin Tate, and Robert Powell, as well as HBO’s Def Comedy Jam veteran Tony Roberts.
