With last week overpacked with premieres, this week features all of the spillover and those who decided to hold off a week. There are ten premieres in all.
On Tuesday we see one of the most underrated comedies on television return to Comedy Central. Guests on the fourth season of Drunk History include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Paget Brewster, Dave Grohl, Thomas Middleditch, Aubrey Plaza, Ben Folds, Tony Hale, and more. That should say enough about how cool this show is. If you haven’t been watching, don’t worry, it’s not too late. Start immediately. Also on Tuesday, Tosh.0 returns as doesThe Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail. And with the bittersweet news of the show coming to an end both on Comedy Central as well as in L.A. at The Meltdown, get your final glimpse of this important show that has been able to usher in some of L.A.’s biggest and brightest stars.
On Wednesday, TV Land brings back two of its big shows in Younger and Impastor. And closing out the work week Amazon launches the much anticipated Crisis in Six Scenes hailing from Woody Allen. His first-ever scripted TV series is a six-episode domestic comedy set in the 1960s. Miley Cyrus, Elaine May, and Allen himself head a cast that also includes Lewis Black, Michael Rapaport, Joy Behar, Rachel Brosnahan, Becky Ann Baker, David Harbour, Margaret Ladd, and Rebecca Schull.
On Saturday, Showtime premieres Sebastian Maniscalco: Why Would You Do That? He’s been killing it on the road this summer and stealing the show during the Oddball Festival. He recently won the award for “Stand-up Comedian of the Year”. And now we get this can’t miss special. Also on Saturday, we get the return of one of television’s longest running programs, Saturday Night Live. Season 42 will see some changes in both performers and writers. Margot Robbie and The Weekend are responsible for hosting and performing duties respectfully.
Finally, on Sunday, we get four premieres. Ash vs. Evil Dead premieres on Starz as does Blunt Talk. Season 2 of the latter will have guests Fred Armisen, Jason Schwartzman, Fred Melamed, and Brett Gelman have appearances. Kevin Hart Presents: Hart of the City premieres on Comedy Central while Shameless premieres on Showtime. June Squibb and Sharon Lawrence are among the newcomers for the show’s seventh season, which is debuting earlier than normal.
