A few weeks ago, Arrested Development star Jason Bateman made the much-awaited announcement that the beloved comedy show will be returning to Netflix for another season. Despite the fact that, at the time, Will Arnett said he hadn’t been contacted about the new season, he’s officially on board now — and he’s shared some heartening info on the upcoming new episodes.
During the show’s first three seasons, it was a true ensemble comedy, with stars Bateman, Arnett, David Cross, Michael Cera, Alia Shawkat, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, and Jessica Walter having constant, hilarious run-ins with one another. By the time the show got its revival on Netflix, back in 2013, Arrested Development had propelled its cast into their own separate, wildly busy careers — it was too difficult to get everyone in the same room at the same time, a conflict the show dealt with by focusing certain episodes on certain characters, rarely having them in the same room together.
It was an interesting workaround, and one that didn’t particularly resonate with all Arrested Development‘s fans, who missed seeing the Bluths banter with one another endlessly.
But in an interview with Business Insider, Arnett had some good news: this new season will be more like the first three, structured “much like the original” and featuring more multi-cast member storylines.
The whole cast will be back for the fifth season, too.
New episodes of Arrested Development will hit Netflix next year; Arnett’s own show, Flaked, enters its second season on the same network this Friday, June 2nd.
