Chappelle, Rock, DeGeneres, and Seinfeld harass Netflix stars in new stand-up ads

Last week we noticed a few billboards popping up in Hell's Kitchen of NYC that said the words "Netflix is a Joke" in bold black font over a white background. We Tweeted a photo asking if anyone knew what's up with them. While we assumed that it was some sort of ad campaign (it was a billboard after all). We soon learned that the ads were also popping up in LA as our Tweet went pretty viral, showing up in AdWeek and Variety. While everyone assumed there would be a second part of the ad campaign and we'd just have to wait for the reveal. But our best guess was that it had something to do with all the heavy hitting stand-up comedy specials the streaming giant inked deals and released this year.

Tonight, during the Emmys our assumptions were correct as the second string of ad hit. Placing comics like Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, Ellen DeGeneres, and Chris Rock into popular Netflix series. Want to see Chappelle harass the kids from Stranger Things? Chris Rock mock the cast from Orange Is the New Black? It's all there. The ad campaign is all about these heavy hitting comedians releasing new specials this fall. Starting with Seinfeld's new special, Jerry Before Seinfeld landing this Tuesday. We're thinking 4 comics/4 months left in the year, so maybe a September, October, November, and December release?
