Comedy Central announces Stand-Up Month 2019 with specials from Roy Wood Jr., Chris Distefano, Ron Funches, and James Davis

Comedy Central announced the return of its Stand-Up Month for the top of 2019, making January the month to get 4 new specials in 4 weeks. The month will feature four all-new specials from some killer comedians. We'll see new specials from Ron Funches, James Davis, Chris Distefano, and Roy Wood Jr. Hour long specials that will air on consecutive Fridays throughout the month of January at 11pm on Comedy Central.

The schedule of specials for Stand-up Month is as follows...

Friday, January 4th - 11pm - Ron Funches Giggle Fit

Ron Funches makes a dramatic wrestling-inspired entrance before hitting the stage for a precisely crafted hour that demonstrates his unique style of comedy. Forgoing the comic tendency to skewer and complain, Ron accentuates the positive in a refreshing set about a wide range of things he loves and enjoys: vision boarding, losing weight, parenting his autistic son, TV, and yes, wrestling. Filmed at The Neptune Theatre in Seattle, the special also includes an opening that features wrestling icon Ric Flair.

Friday, January 11th - 11pm - James Davis Live From The Town

A raucous hour of comedy that puts Davis’s second-to-none stage presence and crowd engagement on full display. With a captivating delivery that keeps his audience hanging on his every word, Davis shows incredible range, including an impression of Barack Obama as a party DJ; the invention of Barbecue Davis, his professional golf alter-ego; dissections of social topics from #MeToo to police violence; and hilarious commentary on everything from “pimp uncles” to getting his car keyed. Davis filmed the special live at the New Parish Theatre in Oakland, CA.

Friday, January 18th - 11pm - Chris Distefano Size 38 Waist

It's an hour of personal material for the Brooklyn native that expounds on his fast-gentrifying home borough, fatherhood, and his own open-minded outlook despite a conservative upbringing. At once a charmer and the product of a grittier New York, Distefano examines Brooklyn's new and old with a mindset similarly caught in between. The comedian filmed the special where else, but in at Roulette Intermedium.

Friday, January 25th - 11pm - Roy Wood Jr. No One Loves You

This is Wood's second one-hour stand-up special for Comedy Central, performed live from Chicago’s Vic Theatre. Following the success of his first special, Father Figure, The Daily Show correspondent and host of This is Not Happening hilariously explores some of today’s most complicated issues, from the plight of the black superhero and national anthem protests to the many failed strategies men have used to avoid #MeToo allegations, Roy covers them all.

In addition to airing stand-up shows, Comedy Central announced a an all-new digital series called Comedy Central Stand-Up Featuring which will also premiere during Stand-Up Month on January 8th via YouTube, Facebook Watch, Twitter, and Instagram. The purpose of the show is to spotlight new up-and-coming comedians each Tuesday and Thursday weekly. The network said the show will, be "In the spirit of linear predecessors of shows like Adam Devine’s House Party and Live at Gotham." The series will feature short sets from some of comedy's best young voices. The first cycle of stand-up sets was filmed at Littlefield in Brooklyn and features NYC-based comedians like Tom Thakkar, Petey DeAbreu, Dina Hashem, Natasha Vaynblat, Ian Lara, Clare O’Kane, Stavros Halkias, Hanna Dickinson, Joyelle Nicole Johnson, Yedoye Travis, Marie Faustin, Ryan Beck, Martin Urbano, and Chris Cotton. They plan on shooting a second cycle will in January.
