16 people entered, one man left, and that man happens to be the doorman of The Comedy Store. Frank Castillo bested Matthew Broussard to take home the Roast Battle II championship.
Castillo auditioned in the LA Regionals and made it to the final bracket of 16 to take home the trophy after four nights competition culminating in tonight's live broadcast of the finals. Castillo made it to the finals after a tough semi-final battle with Joe Dosch. He was then pitted against Matthew Broussard in the final where he was dominant, Broussard had the rare line flub on his second joke and it was the opening Castillo needed to take the title.
Broussard himself fought a hard battle against Todd Barry in the semis to get to the finals. After leaving the competition a bit too early in Roast Battle I, Broussard returned and clawed his way back to the finals (where he stood at Roastmaster's Invitation at Just For Laughs only to lose to Jimmy Carr).
Roast Battle II, billed as War Of the Words, set up shop in The House Of Blues on the Sunset Strip, right across from The Comedy Store where Roast Battle began in the venue's Belly Room. Roastmaster Jeff Ross and referee Brian Moses welcomed comedians TJ Miller, Jason Sudeikis, Patton Oswalt and Natasha Leggero to host the finals.
Castillo's title follows Michael Lawrence who took the Roast Battle I championship. Lawrence was in the audience to see his successor crowned. Also appearing in the audience were other comedians like Moshe Kasher, The Sklar Brother, Mo Mandel, and Steph Simbari.
It should also go without saying that props need to be given to the famous Roast Battle Wave for pulling off some incredible act outs on live television including some dildo flashes, and yes a simulated urinating on one Donald Drumpf.
Congrats Frank!
