The Academy Awards honor the year’s best work in film, from directing to acting to technical efforts like “sound mixing” that get honored in their own, less star-studded ceremonies. There is, unfortunately, no category for “Most Fun Late Night Host” – but Seth Meyers wants in on this year’s Oscar action anyways, so he’s created the ultimate Oscar Bait trailer to guarantee a win.
Oscar Bait has everything: flyover shots of a dismal New England factory town, repressed homosexual romance, a mysterious illness (“balloon foot”), lots of crying. A man staring at trains. Needlessly artistic editing. Solitaire. Basically, it’d be amazing if this didn’t take home Best Picture.
It’s up against actual contenders Arrival, Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, La La Land, Lion, Manchester By The Sea, and Moonlight. Read the full list of nominees here.
