For the last few months many of us have been wondering just what the hell the world would do with Anthony Atamanuik. His impersonation of Donald Trump rose to prominence as the 2016 election cycle was heating up with his and James Adomian's show Trump Vs. Bernie. The two got a lot of mileage out of the show, taking it on the road, to festivals, TV appearances, radio appearances, and released their debate as a top comedy album. Many might've secretly hoped that the world wouldn't need Atamanuik's services as Trump after the election, but we all know that was not the cast come November 8th.
Then came speculation that with Alec Baldwin expressing interest in ending his Donald Trump role on Saturday Night Live that Adamanuik might head over there. But, it turns out that Comedy Central has snatched up Atamanuik and created The President Show, a weekly topical series set to air Thursdays after The Daily Show beginning Thursday, April 27th.
The President Show is on brand, basically Trump deciding to bypass the crooked media and just host his own late night show directly from the Oval Office. This way he can completely control his message - no unfair questions from reporters, no awkward photo ops with German ladies, and no bedtimes. Just Trump doing Trump-spin on current events. There will be desk segments and guest interview. Will he have a sidekick? Of course and that will be none other than VP Mike Pence, played by Peter Grosz.
