Chris Gethard to tape "Career Suicide" Off-Broadway show for HBO

Since October 2016, Chris Gethard has been performing his one-man show, Career Suicide Off-Broadway to rave reviews. Today HBO announced that it will put a cap on the show by taping it for an HBO special.

Career Suicide will tape at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center in NYC on February 11th and is slated for a May debut. Judd Apatow will executive produce the show and will be directed by Kimberly Senior, who also directed the stage production of the show.

Career Suicide is a comedy about the darker parts of Gethard's life, including depression, alcoholism, and suicide. Gethard holds nothing back as he dives into his experiences with mental illness and psychiatry, finding hope in the strangest places.

"Chris Gethard is a fearless storyteller, and Career Suicide is exactly the kind of raw, relevant and hilarious comedy we are thrilled to share with our audience,” says Nina Rosenstein, executive vice president, HBO Programming. Judd Apatow remarks, “I’m so excited that the entire world will be able to see Chris’ one-man show. And then, whenever he walks into a room, people will look at him funny."
