Christopher Titus has worked to bring his idea for a feature film to a reality for a long time, 10 years actually (it originally was a pilot for Comedy Central). Today is the day when that dream is a reality and the film is now available to the public. The movie, called Special Unit features Titus as a "the worst cop in Los Angeles" overseeing a new team a team of officers working undercover. Due to the fairness in disabilities act, the Van Nuys PD is forced to hire four handicapped detectives and they've all been assigned to Titus' unit.
Titus was the creative force behind the film, as he stars, directed, and produced the film. Comedian/actor Billy Gardell (Mike And Molly) also stars along with Cynthia Watros (Lost). Rounding out the cast are Tobias Forrest, Debbie Lee Carrington, and Michael Aronin.
As to why Titus wanted to make the film he stated, "I have friends who are disabled and they deal with a very different world. Aside from having a disability, they have the public looking away, or even worse, staring. Imagine living in that, all day, every day. On top of that, Hollywood doesn’t give them opportunities often. If they do, it’s in a Hallmark movie or playing a "special little hero.'" The intent of the film is to portray disable people just like anyone else - capable of a range of emotions.
