Comedy Central greenlights Jordan Klepper as host for new late night show

Comedy Central is once again diving into the talent pool of The Daily Show to figure out a new show for its 11:30 timeslot and a proper replacement for The Nightly Show which was cancelled in the fall of 2016. The network has tapped TDS correspondent Jordan Klepper to helm his own show for said timeslot and will make its debut this fall and running Monday through Thursday nights.

Klepper started to appear on The Daily Show in March 2014 near the end of Jon Stewart's run as the show's host. Since Trevor Noah took over as the host of the show, both Klepper and Roy Wood Jr. have become breakout correspondents of the show. With a larger presence on the show with many of his sketches - particularly ones about the 2016 election - going viral. Klepper even hosted TDS when Noah had to undergo an emergency appendectomy.

In the months since The Nightly Show left the air, Comedy Central has been working behind the scenes to fill the space and once again return the timeslot to the dominance it once had with the back-to-back Stewart/Colbert. Since then, @midnight has aired in the 11:30pm timeslot. It's expected to move back to the time its name implies after Klepper's show premieres.

Klepper's show isn't really locked down yet. It currently has no title and no firm format but that will be worked on in the months ahead. But Klepper is working on surrounding “himself with a handpicked team of contributors contractually obligated to reinforce his singularly correct worldview." As the program will "embrace and define the chaos of our country by channeling Klepper’s steadfast attitude that institutions are to be trusted less than the lies of the mainstream media."

“The choice to entrust me with the 11:30 p.m. time slot is both incredibly humbling and deeply disturbing,” Klepper said in a statement. “Without a doubt, it has utterly destroyed my confidence in Comedy Central’s decision making acumen. Dear God, now I have to work with these fools.”

Yesterday Comedy Central also announced its plans to launch the Anthony Atamanuik-led The President Show on Thursday nights at 11:30pm but that can easily be moved to a different timeslot.
