Special Tapings Radar: These 10 Hilarious Comics Are Taping Comedy Specials This Month (September 2023)

Last month, 800 Pound Gorilla News introduced their newest monthly segment called the Special Tapings Radar, where we showcase & highlight all the funniest comedians who are getting ready to record their next stand-up comedy special & album this upcoming month.

We rounded out 10 ridiculously hilarious comics who you need to see and be in the room for their next comedy special taping if you can (and are still able too if the show hasn't sold out yet). Your chance to be in the room for a live comedy special is closer than you think. Here's everyone you need to pay attention to that's recording their next hour during the month of September.

Derrick Stroup

Alabama native and stand-up comedian Derrick Stroup is not your average slow talking Southerner. With the cadence of an angry auctioneer, he engages his audiences with his detailed stories, over the top energy and southern charm (this checks out considering his Instagram handle is @derrick_yells).

Since leaving home for Denver in 2015 to chase his dreams of stand-up comedy, Derrick has become a regular opener for the likes of John Crist and Josh Blue. He also won one of the biggest comedy contests in the country in 2019 at the World-Famous Comedy Works in Denver. This well-respected competition has over 250 entries each year. Look for Derrick's Dry Bar Comedy special titled Derrick Stroup: Yelling My Feelings.

He's taping his new special beginning August 31st to September 2nd at Comedy Works South in Denver, CO. Tickets are available and can be purchased here.

Akaash Singh

Kyle Kinane has been on a wild, wild ride as a comedian and has been heavily tearing up the scene this year alone. Just this past March, he released his newest & highly raved special Shocks & Struts (which is just so, so close to hitting a million views on YouTube if you haven't watched it yet). He currently hosts the podcast No Accounting For Taste with fellow comedian Shane Torres where they “investigate maligned topics and challenge themselves to find the good in all, yes, even Florida.”

James Adomian
James Adomian

James Adomian

James Adomian is a comedian from California, but his impact can truly be considered global or even cosmic. As a voiceover artist he has appeared on a hundred cartoons and a thousand podcasts. As an on-camera (i.e. "real") actor, he has enjoyed some amusing failures and tolerated a few partial successes across television, cinema, and the world wide web. James is one of those performers who plays "deep characters” so people often do not connect that he was "that guy" whom they loved so much from some particular thing.

On the stage he is a living god, an incarnation of Dionysus, meaning he is often drunk and largely available for bookings. He has been to Armenia twice but still can't seem to convince anyone that he is Armenian. James is a proud Aquarius, and he is very, very Aquarian to the point where you would think he's doing a bit when you meet him.

He'll be taping his next special on September 14th at The Elysian in Los Angeles. Tickets are available here.
