Ever since Stephen Colbert left the coveted post-Daily Show 11:30pm timeslot Comedy Central has attempted many things to replace the late night host who was performing an act as a different late night host - Larry Willmore, Chris Hardwick, Jordan Klepper, have all tried but for some reason nothing has ever jelled in that timeslot. Now, Comedy Central is attempting to see if bonafide star power will work.
The network announced that David Spade will be given the 11:30pm timeslot with a new, not-yet-titled nightly series. The show will be Spade riffing on pop culture (which sounds similar to his SNL Hollywood Minute) as well as a rotating group of his comedian and celebrity friends and field segments. One thing Spade made clear in the announcement, he has zero plans to incorporate politics into the show because, "mostly I'm too stupid."
The show is set to premiere later this year and is executive produced by Spade, Alex Murray and Marc Gurvitz. Brad Wollack and Tom Brunelle of Free 90 Media serve as executive producers and showrunners.
In addition to this announcement, Comedy Central reviewed freshman comedy The Other Two for a second season (read our interview with the show's creators here). Also, the return of Crank Yankers which Jimmy Kimmel's newly-formed production team will oversee along Adam Carolla.
