This morning, the TV Academy announced the annual Emmy Award nominations, celebrating your TV favorites in 2022 and 2023. As usual, there were some surprises with the nominations.
The biggest surprise came from Jury Duty. Everyone knew Barry, Ted Lasso, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Only Murders in the Building, The Bear, and Abbott Elementary would be shoe-ins for a nomination. Most people expected Shrinking or Poker Face to take that final slot. Instead, the sleeper hit Jury Duty, which premiered to unexpectedly rave reviews from critics and audiences, surprised us all by taking that slot.
Every year, a fair amount of stand-up specials get nominations as well, in the Outstanding Variety Special category. This year was no different. Additionally, the Emmys gave lots of love to Weird Al Yankovic for his biopic last year. So once again, comedy was well-represented at the Emmys!
