Matt Groening, the man behind The Simpsons, has a new animated project in the works -- and it's already got a pretty amazing cast.
The "adult cartoon," Disenchantment, will debut in 2018 with a 20-episode first season. It'll air (where else?) on Netflix.
Set in "in a crumbling medieval kingdom called Dreamland. The series follows the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses and more of what Netflix called 'human fools,'" according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Broad City's Abbi Jacobson, The Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding, Adult Swim host Eric Andre, and Oscar winner Nat Faxon will lead the cast of voice actors, which also includes the legendary Billy West, comic Rich Fulcher, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, and Lucy Montgomery.
Says Groening himself: "Ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you."
It sounds like the show will fit right in with Netflix's other adult-oriented cartoons, like Bill Burr's F is for Family and darkly comic Bojack Horseman. And, of course, coming from the creator of the iconic Life In Hell cartoon series, we're expecting plenty of twisted takes on adulthood from Disenchantment.
