The last few weeks have seen a lot of controversy related to men in power making gross transgressions toward women. While public outcry is expected and warranted, in the corner of the comedy community an article (which should've been an op-ed) penned by comedian Guy Branum in Vulture sparked a controversy. The crux of Branum's article was that the metaphorical boy's table that defended Louis C.K. needs to be burned down. However, the main issue of the article positioned the Comedy Cellar's famous comedian's table as the basis for the metaphor, thus essentially casting the Cellar's table as the basis of a negative metaphor.
Comedy Cellar owner Noam Dwaroman invited Branum to appear on his SiriusXM show/podcast Live From The Table to discuss frustrations he had with the article and find out the logic behind Branum's thoughts and converse directly and openly on the subject. Other comedians in the club such as Rick Crom, Keith Robinson, and Adrienne Iapalucci, chimed in on the subject.
It's a podcast that should be admired for comedy folks having a legitimate, calm, rational, and great discussion. As we currently live in a confirmation bias world where folks do not always respect others with differing opinions, this proves that civil conversation can exist.
No matter where you land on this conversation, it's an important lesson in the importance of journalism, fact checking, conversation, and social issues.
