2008’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall is notable for many reason. Of course, it was the film that allowed Jason Segel to leap from the best friend to leading man in movies. It also introduced American audiences to Russell Brand. But also notably, it brought us the Dracula puppet musical we never knew we wanted.
In the film, Segel’s character is a composer who has a long-unfulfilled passion project he’s always wanted to do, a musical of Dracula featuring puppets. After much talk, we finally get to see what it would look like at the end of the film. And fans were left wondering what a full version of that musical would look like.
It’s been 15 years since the film came out, but it sounds like Segel wants to finally do something with his fictional Dracula musical.
“I have an idea that I’ve had for a long time that I just need people to be excited about doing,” Segel told GQ in a new interview.
“I would like to do a special of [his Forgetting Sarah Marshall character] Peter Bretter bringing A Taste For Love to Broadway. Almost like what Lin-Manuel Miranda did with Hamilton, that special about the making of. I would love to see that, but for Peter Bretter taking the Dracula puppet musical to Broadway.”
So there you have it. Hopefully Segel finds someone who wants to see that special as much as he does.
