Fawlty Towers is by and large considered one of the greatest TV sitcoms of all time, despite having made only 12 episodes – a mere half of a single season in America at the time. Yet, the show has long had a cult following. And with all the other reboots going on, the time has come for Fawlty Towers to come back.
Today it was announced that the reboot is in the works at Rob Reiner’s Castle Rock Entertainment. Cleese will write and star in the series alongside his daughter, Camilla.
The series, according to Deadline, “will explore how Cleese’s over-the-top, cynical and misanthropic Basil Fawlty navigates the modern world. Plot details are largely being kept under wraps but the development will bring the story forward to explore Basil’s relationship with a daughter he has just discovered he had, as the pair tempt fate and team up to run a boutique hotel.“
Cleese, of course, created and starred in the original alongside his then-wife Connie Booth. No word on whether Booth or Basil’s wife – played by Prunella Scales – will be returning.
