We first had the pleasure of seeing comedian Julio Torres at a stand-up comedy show held in the archives at the Paste studios a few years back. We were immediately intrigued by Torres' offbeat brand of humor and stage presence, and there was something so likeable about him because he was different. It wasn't long after that that Torres was hired as a writer on Saturday Night Live where he'd pen some of the most memorable sketches of he last few seasons - "Wells for Boys" and "Papyrus".

Torres became a hot commodity fast, in addition to SNL he landed on comics to watch lists, a New Face at Just For Laughs, a Comedy Central Half Hour, and now HBO is getting into business with Torres even more than the previously-announced sketch comedy show Los Espookys which he co-created and stars in. Julio Torres will have his first stand-up hour air on HBO this summer.

Bulled as a "muti-media comedy show" and taped before a live audience at Elsewhere in Brooklyn, My Favorite Shapes was executive produced by both Fred Armisen and Lorne Michaels.

"I just need to show my shapes. That's all this is for," says Torres.
